System Crash!!! – How to Avoid Data Loss???

Computer users understand the value of data only after a system crash. After checking the system,
if the IT engineer ask for a system format and reinstallation due to serious trouble, user's first response will be to take Data Backup. But many users lost precious data even after taking backup from each and every folders before formatting. Just because they don’t know the default path of some of the critical files.

How to avoid this data loss?
In brief, just ensure that your data is stored in a drive other than the OS and application are installed. The data includes My Documents & Desktop folder, Favorites, address book file, PST Files or any application related database. For this, modify the path of My Documents or move the Desktop and Favorites folders to D drive. Also while creating a PST, create it in D drive instead of storing in default path. By default, all these data stored in C drive where the OS is installed. In most system issues, only C drive format is required.

Benefits while saving in other drives!!!
  • Huge time saving for data backup, if the Hard Disc replacement is required.
  • Fast data restoration after the Operating System installation.
Thoughts!!!
I have seen the tears and angry of system users due the loss of data, precious time and expenses for data recovery. Most of the users are getting IT support from an engineer today, but tomorrow from a different engineer. So as a system user, you should be very cautious to configure the path of all folders like My Documents, Desktop or PST etc.. to D drive, which is usually having no Operating system files.

When it has to be configured???
After the first login to your new system or on a fresh OS installed system. If not configured till now, just do it. Once this configuration is completed, any files saved to your my Documents or desktop is actually saving at D drive -> respective folder. Also ensure that if you are trying to select the path to save the file manually, save it in D drive, respective folder.

How to have a system re-installation in just 10 mins instead of spending 2 hours?? Expect this blog soon… Subscribe the blogs to get notified over mails by submitting your mail ID at the right side of this page, first gadget.
